Labor Day Adventures

Labor Day in the United States became a federal holiday in 1894.  Following the deaths of a number of workers at the hands of the U.S. military and U.S. Marshals during the Pullman Strike, President Grover Cleveland put reconciliation with the labor movement as a top political priority. Fearing further conflict, legislation making Labor Day a national holiday was rushed through Congress unanimously and signed into law a mere six days after the end of the strike.

After learning something, let me take you inside my weekend full of family fun including a corn maze, lake time, a random apple orchard and adventures in Taylor Falls, that no longer has Falls actually but holds the St Croix’s Cross (see below). The boyfriend Steve, his brother and sister-in-law and their little 1-year-baby Allison also enjoyed the hour-long corn maze. With the help of Instagram to showcase some of the love of the water, family and adventure. Enjoy.

A ^Censored look into a [Girl’s Bachelorette Party]

One big inflatable Willy. A Funny-Shaped pink cake. Cookies shaped as bras & underwear. Kiss the man’s _____ games…

Just the beginning of a weekend full of girl-only activities for the bride-to-be. I headed up north to experience this event where woman can show-off their hidden naughty-side, bash the guy’s habits, eat lots and drink more than usual all with wearing matching ringed T-shirts.

The bachelorette market is growing, every gal seems to have to go on the town, spend money on prizes and is always trying to find the newest penis shaped toy or game.

The best part about these get-to-gethers is it is prepping yourself for the wedding. Girls give pretty things for the bedroom, dozens of pairs of new underwear, thongs and strings and also gives you a chance to meet the bridal party and others attending the wedding. The bride is usually pretty calm at this time and will vent about her mom and usually soon-to-be Mother-in-law.

This Bride-to-Be didn’t have any sign of the mother-in-law, sister in law or unwanted cousins which probably made the weekend even more remarkable.

It really was a great time and full of laughs all lake-side in Bemidji MN.

What is the best gift to bring or what does a MN design gal bring?

For the panty-game edible underwear… because noone ever buys themselves and frankly someone will only try them once.

I like to then give something that reflects the bride. Abby is a school teacher so a book on the “Man’s friend Pokey” seemed appropriate. The end page shows the Groom’s face on his body… You get it what the Pokey is…

Now, this is my 7th Bachelorette party I think… and the best part is someday I hope these gals are there for me too. Friends are forever and the best ones come and party with you.

Who’s hungry for a Fast Frank, soft, warm and fast!?

DL Summer Wedding

Detroit Lakes, MN was the destination of a college friend and former roommate’s wedding day. It gave my date and I the opportunity to explore DL a bit.
What we found is this tourist city lacked. Attractions and places to dine and cocktail. Using four square to navigate fun restaurants and bars we would find that either they were closed or out of business or were “sketchy”. The Zorba’s hot spot was for a night life place, heading there at noon a seeing bikers, families and singles all drinking made me think this really is people on vaca.20110724-032911.jpg
We ended up at the Holiday Inn’s restaurant where had a basic tiki bar were the salad was mediocre but the view made up for it.
Played a round of mini-golf that had advertised waterfalls and looked great off the high-way to become pretty basic put-put with clearly some heavy remodeling needed.
The wedding didn’t start until 5pm, which was a refreshing change for there wasn’t any lingering time in-between to lead to dinner and reception.
The buffet was a huge hit by most with views of plants overflowing and clearly 3 rounds per plate. What I noticed was that the speeches focused on how the maid of honor and best men knew the couple completed w some embarrassing moments and laughs. What I didn’t see was either the bride or groom thanking one another or bringing up why they feel in love (their perspective). That is always my favorite part! It makes you think about weddings and how much they are focused on the dress, food, booze and the dance.
The bride and good friend of mine was beaming all night and that is when you know that being there for your friends really was worth the trip!20110724-032922.jpg
Ending the weekend back in Brandon where Steve and I enjoyed the sun, rays and the boat.
This is what summer is about, friends, family, lakes and love.

Last Minute Chicago Wkd

A Friday idea of a road trip to the Chicago destination to watch the Twins sweep the Chicago White Sox’s at US Cellular Field became a reality. Arriving at 2 AM with no hotel reservations, became clear we had done it! My travel partner and boyfriend, Steve was driver and wasn’t ready for the $60 smoking room at the Amber Inn, so we kept it classy at the Hilton both nights. Our Twins didn’t win Saturday, but our 18th row above home-plate seats made it worth wild. After the game we became tourists visiting the Navy Pier and the Buckingham Fountain. Now heading home today, here a few highlight photos… Chicago is closer to us than you think my Minneapolis friends.

Next year, it will be Milwaukee Brewer Park adventure!

At the private restaurant club at the field, (like Legends Club Target Field), I left a bit of Twins pride.
